"Real ships. Real impact. Real code."

Job description

At Seafar, we're doing something that's never been done at scale before: remotely operating vessels through software. Real ships. Real-time. From a screen.

We're a fast-moving team of 25 people building the platform that makes this possible, and we're looking for a software engineer who wants to be part of something that genuinely matters.

What you’ll be building

You'll play a key role in developing a reactive, high-performance desktop platform, the interface between our remote operators and the vessels they control. That means real-time telemetry, hardware integration, and software that needs to work when it counts.

Your work spans the full picture: building new features end-to-end, integrating real-world input hardware like joysticks, pedals, and onboard sensors, and applying Domain-Driven Design to keep business logic clean and testable. You'll also develop vehicle and joystick simulators that replicate real-world vessel behaviour with millisecond precision, virtual environments where control logic is validated before it ever touches a real ship. Getting this right matters: the software you write is part of a safety-critical system.

Beyond building, you'll monitor and fine-tune performance, write robust tests, and help us keep raising the bar on quality. You'll see your code go from a pull request to a real vessel responding in real time.

Job requirements

Who we're looking for

We're not looking for someone who ticks every box. We're looking for someone who's curious, resourceful, and ready to dig into hard problems. Someone who takes ownership, figures things out, and isn't afraid of unfamiliar territory.

What matters most:

  • You have solid experience in C# / .NET and feel at home in a complex codebase

  • You like understanding how systems work end-to-end, not just your own piece of it

  • You write code you're proud of: clean, tested, maintainable

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and know how to move forward without having all the answers

  • You want to work somewhere your contributions are visible and your impact is real

The stack you'll grow into

You don't need to know all of this on day one. This is what you'll work with over time:

.NET 8 (C#), WPF, MVVM · Rx.NET and event-driven architecture · DDD and CQRS · EF Core with Cosmos DB and SQLite · Azure Service Bus, Redis, Hangfire · TCP-based hardware integration (joysticks, pedals, sensors) · Vehicle and joystick simulations · Digital Twins and Azure Storage · CI/CD, Application Insights, MSTest/Moq

Why you will love Seafar

  • Your code interacts with physical hardware on real vessels, the feedback loop doesn't get more direct than that

  • We're a small team, which means real responsibility and no place to hide (in the best way)

  • We move fast, care about quality, and invest in the people who help us grow

  • We work 4 days a week from our office in Antwerp, where operators, engineers, and remote vessels are all under the same roof
